The Ho Chi Minh City (formerly Saigon, Vietnam) leg of the Asian trip with ETS was, should I say, very overwhelming for a lot of reasons. And since I can't and should not put it in words, let the pictures speak for themselves.
But I'll try to guide you through each one.
| Vietnam, the first sighting. Looked as cramped as Manila! |
| But at least their main terminal is a lot newer than Manila's. :( |
| "Saigon" by night! Reminiscent of Ermita, in all respects, if you know what I mean! |
| Sounds vulgar if you pronounce it... |
| ...but it serves the best Pho in town! It's a very tiny eatery, but I swear, you'll swear while sipping on that delectable sabaw... |
| that went with a garden of basil leaves... |
| and monggo sprouts... |
| with ice-cold local beer and... |
| Bahn Mi! |
| A so-so massage to cap the night, for tomorrow, the survival of the fittest begins! |
| A view from the hotel restaurant. |
| Where else can you be an instant millionaire without winning the lottery? |
| Motorcycles everywhere!!! |
| Was really happy to see locals clad in traditional Vietnamese clothing! |
| Their tallest building! |
| One of the many structures that showcase French influence in the country. |
| Eggshells now, |
| this later! |
| Miss Saigon! |
| Cu Chi Tunnel, the highlight of the Vietnam leg. |
| Orienting tourists about the tunnel which was the stronghold of the Vietnamese during the war. |
| One of the innumerable deadly traps for both food and American enemies. |
| A fox hole, where soldiers hide, but leads nowhere. They guy was around 6ft... |
| for a hole that only fits a child. |
| This was the vent to let air into the tunnel, cleverly guised as holes in anthills. |
| A tank destroyed by a land mine. So we had to ask Mr. Tour Guide if there were some left in the area. |
| Different traps for different kinds of pains! |
| We needed to refuel. |
| I am not really claustrophobic, but I hate dark and narrow anything... |
| While this super creature lives for this kind of adventure! |
| I could do the first level, and the next, but the third level down? |
| I was gasping to get to the escape hole alive! |
| While she had that big contemptuous smile! |
| But the roads of Vietnam was as horrifying for the uninitiated as myself! A pregnant woman, on a motorcycle, in a sea of rampaging motorcyles, everyone inside our coaster was hypoventilating! |
| Much like the Tuol Seng Museum in Cambodia, the trip to this museum was also heart-wrenching and exasperating at the same time. |
| Right now is just a wishful thinking! |
Two of the "darkest galleries.
| Time for a breather, the beautiful Notre-Dame Basilica! |
| Motorcycles everywhere pa rin!!! |
| The Reunification Palace. Looks like our National Library from this standpoint. |
| The fountain, what else? |
| At Pho 24 which we were told to be the "Jollibee " of Vietnam. This platter was served within not more than 2 minutes. It was ice-cold. We were so not eating something somebody else decided he did not want. They did not even bother to reheat! We had Pho instead and it was heaven! |
| Ca phe sua da! This one is really good but not as good as the one from Pho Quynh! |
| The post office. |
| While on the way to a show, we saw our very own San Miguel Beer displayed prominently in one of the busiest hang-outs of locals and foreigners alike. |
| The water puppet show! |
| The river cruise. |
| The fire eater! |
| Flamenco dancers, i think! :( |
| Ho Chi Minh by the bay! |
| Of course, what's a trip to Vietnam without bargain shopping at Ben Than... |
| where we saw this caucasian lady calmly riding the xich lo cutting through the onslaught of motocycle traffic! |
Final meal in Vietnam, again in Pho Quynh. This ca phe sua da is SICK!
| Where we bought the Banh Mi. We noticed, anywhere we went in Vietnam, no flies at all, ... |
| even when there's Fuki nearby! LOL! |
